In the United States, gas prices are at an outrageous high. They are largely effecting many facets of life. Food prices are skyrocketing, airline prices are going up, and I just read in the local newspaper the other day that even speeding tickets are down because people are driving slower to save money on gas! But do we really have it that bad? Gas Prices In the USA The EIA (Energy Information Administration) reports for June 2008 that the average price of premium gasoline in the USA averaged $4.31/gallon. Just 10 years ago, in June 1998, they report that the premium gas prices averaged only $1.24! That's quite a difference.

Unfortunately, while gas prices have gone through the roof, people's paychecks have not. Which has probably left you wondering how high gas prices will go and whether or not you'll be able to keep your head above water. Gas prices are affected by several factors. At the local gas station, gas prices are set by the cost of replacement. Basically, gas is priced according to how much it will cost to replace it rather than how much it originally cost to buy it. This means you have to pay for the fear of rising prices. The rising price of crude oil is another factor that has caused gas prices to increase. This is attributed to the actions of some investors who have started bidding the price of a barrel of oil ever higher, resulting in record high gas prices.

Why Are Gas Prices So High? A common question on the tongue of every common man! The gas prices that we pay these days are far more than what we paid in the 60's, 70's or the 80's. The prices of gas is increasing worldwide and there is not way it is coming down in the coming days. One of the reasons of the high prices of gas is due to the maintenance and the highly refining costs. The oil that we use these days has to pass from many quality assurance tests and refining processes. In the past days, there were not so many tests and refining processes. So, the costs of refining and tests make it far more than the actual price. Other than that, there are a lot more other factors that are involved in the increase of the price of gasoline.
